My bowel movements were not great before the cleanse and they’re not better on Day 5 of the cleanse either which has surprised me. I expected bowel movements to improve. I am still only emptying my bowels every other day which is not frequent enough.
Causes of Constipation
I learnt from the Total Wellness Cleanse food guide that sugar, amongst other problems, can cause constipation, this obviously doesn’t apply to me as I haven’t had any refined sugar for over a week, even before I started the cleanse! As I wanted to ease my way into the cleanse, I cut out eating biscuits, sweets and cake at least a week before I did the cleanse properly. I was about to email support for help but I listened to 1 of 13 question and answer sessions and that very question, why am I constipated? was addressed!
How to Get Rid of Constipation?
The Total Wellness Cleanse team mentioned that bowel movements will get better in the maintenance phase (this is the 2 weeks after the initial cleanse phase) as one starts to introduce more ‘bulk’ foods into the diet which will be more soluble than insoluble.
- Have more green vegetable juices
- Eat more fruit
- Drink more water
- Increase exercise
- Sit in a position to welcome bowel movements
A lady in the Q+A session said she took a natural supplement made of apple and other minerals that helped to loosen her bowels. However, it was recommended that she get the wholefood equivalent to this.
